Standard #10: School and Community Involvement

“A teacher communicates and interacts with parents/guardians, families, school colleagues, and the community to support the students’ learning and well being.”

It is important for the teacher to be actively involved in the lives of the students.  Teachers should effectively communicate with all groups associated with the student to promote the student’s growth.

ARTIFACT: Parents, teachers and volunteers came together to plan a very successful event at KPS in Oswego NY.  I was involved in the planning, set up, and clean up of the event.  Over half of the volunteers at the event were teachers who donated their time to benefit the students.  Without the help of the teachers this event would not have been as successful as it was.  Over $2,000 was raised for the home and school association fund.  I saw how important it was for the teachers to be involved both during and after school hours.  Being a teacher isn’t a 9-5 job, it is a life long commitment.
