Standard #4: Multiple Instructional Strategies

“The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage student development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.”

It is important for the teacher to use multiple teaching strategies in the classroom.  It is important for teachers to do this so they can meet the needs of ALL learners.  Not all children learn the same way so by having a solid understanding of this concept allows the teacher to maximize the success of ALL students in the classroom by using differentiated instruction.

ARTIFACT: Boards games are a fun alternative way of reitterating concepts.  It provides practice for the students while they interact with peers in a friendly environment.

ARTIFACT: Literacy centers are another great instructional strategy to use in the classroom.  Literacy Centers enhance students language skills in a fun way.  They allow the students to work independently or in small group settings.  To view a sample lesson plan on writing haiku poems CLICK HERE

This is a picture of the literacy center that I created.  It shows that I am capable of creating fun, interesting methods for students to learn important concepts.  This lesson was about haiku poetry.  After the students were given directions they went to the center to write haiku poems about the ocean.  The children were inspired to write their poems by viewing and reading books, listening to ocean sounds music, and viewing samples of poetry.
